Iconic Ketchup Revives Its Historic Canadian Legacy

It took a while, but seven years after closing its flagship production facility in Leamington, Ont., condiments giant Kraft Heinz Canada has marked a triumphant return of its iconic Heinz Ketchup north of the Canada-U.S. border with last month’s rollout of its signature tomato ketchup off a brand new manufacturing line at the company’s Mont Royal plant in Montreal.

Constructed over the past several months, the new highly automated production line is expected to produce over 100 million pounds of Heinz Ketchup for Canadian consumers in the first two years as production ramps up, according to Kraft Heinz Canada president Bruno Keller.

“Heinz Ketchup is the market leader and the favorite of millions of Canadians,” says Keller.

“We are pleased to be investing in our people and our plant to return this iconic product back to Canada,” Keller states.

“While we already produce more than $2 billion worth of food products here in Canada every year, this is part of our long-term strategy of having even more of it to be produced right here in Canada.”

Packaged in one-liter plastic bottles supplied to the Mont Royal plant by Graham Packaging, the Heinz Ketchup produced at Mont Royal will also carry the Aliments du Québec (ADQ) certification, which promotes foods produced by Quebec’s agri-food sector.
