Automation 2018 Busch Innovation in Vacuum Award Busch Vacuum Pumps and Systems Lapierre Equipment

Quebec maple syrup producer claims top prize from European technology giant

Last October, Lapierre Equipment visited Germany at the invitation of the European company Busch Vacuum Pumps and Systems for a special honour: the 2018 Busch Innovation in Vacuum Award.

Busch Vacuum Pumps and Systems is one of the World’s largest manufacturers of vacuum pumps, blowers and compressors.

With customers in more than 40 countries, Busch selects each year one winner throughout the world for this innovation award.

This honor is awarded to individuals or businesses that come up with particularly innovative ways to apply vacuum technology and benefit the human world and the environment as a result.

The Busch Innovation in Vacuum Award was first presented back in 2013 to mark Busch’s 50th anniversary. It was Donald Lapierre, founder of Lapierre Equipment, and his family that were chosen to receive this honor in 2018.

The mink dry claw vacuum pumps deliver the ideal result, providing an efficient, clean and dry vacuum without the need for any water or oil as an operating fluid and are practically maintenance-free.

The award was received directly from the hands of Ayhan, Sami and Kaya Busch at Busch Vacuum Pumps and Systems’ headquarters in Maulburg, Germany.

Mr. Lapierre and vacuum technology go way back.

His father was a maple syrup producer that was already using a very simple vacuum system for sap extraction in the 1970s.

A prominent innovator in the industry, Donald Lapierre later patented several sap releasers that he proposed to maple syrup producers to increase their sap yields.

It was almost inevitable that the innovative businessman from Beauce would then be attracted by Busch dry rotary claw vacuum pump technology.

The main weak spot in sap collection systems were the vacuum pumps (liquid ring vacuum pumps and drip oil-lubricated vacuum pumps) initially employed by the industry.

Experts from Busch found a solution to this problem, introducing Donald Lapierre to Mink dry claw vacuum pumps.

These vacuum pumps deliver the ideal result, providing an efficient, clean and dry vacuum without the need for any water or oil as an operating fluid and are practically maintenance-free.

Furthermore, they also reach a vacuum level deeper than 28”Hg, a measure highly respected by the industry.

As a result, this partnership between Lapierre Equipment and Busch Vacuum Pumps and Systems now offers an innovative solution to maple syrup producers.

Lapierre Equipment, headquartered in Saint-Ludger-de-Beauce, has two maple industry equipment and product factories located in Saint-Ludger and Waterloo, in Eastern Townships.

The company now has nearly 70 distributors, as well as several franchise outlets and distribution centres across Canada and the United States with 200 employees mainly in Québec, plus a solid, long lasting relationship with the American market.
