Automation Controls/Drives DFPI-NB3 actuator Festo Festo Canada

Festo’s linear actuator DFPI-NB3 excels in harsh operating environments.

MISSISSAUGA—Festo Inc.’s new linear actuator series DFPI-NB3 (see image above) with integrated displacement encoder and optimized piston rod guide has been designed to outperform and outlast other linear actuators in the toughest operating conditions encountered in the process automation world.

Integrating the encoder and piston rod guide represents a significant conceptual departure. Most linear actuators require external attachments to implement closed-loop control in process applications. This often leads to increased maintenance costs and reduced component service life. Externally mounted displacement encoders also require frequent re-adjustment and their moving components are prone to increased wear.

The DFPI-NB3 avoids these drawbacks. Integrating the encoder and piston rod guide protects them from the effects of the ambient environment, assuring high reliability throughout a particularly long service life without the gradual performance degradation that conventional actuators suffer from with extended exposure to water, dust, dirt particles or other aggressive media.

The ruggedness and reliability of the compact DFPI-NB3 make it ideal for applications in chemical and mining, energy production, machine and plant builders, water treatment and the handling of bulk goods. Its robustness and versatility make it an excellent choice for swivel motions to control ventilation, flue gas and furnace pressure control valves, hot gas valves and drum slide valves, and for regulating flow rates and filling levels.

It is equally suitable for adjusting the pitch of turbine and rotor blades. When used with linear actuated process valves, the DFPI-NB3 optimizes the motion of shut-off and dosing valves, sluice gates and pinch and dart valves.
