On Tuesday, February 27, 2018 the IHOP (International House Of Pancakes) annual National Pancake Day returns to Canada for the 5th year in a row.

Since National Pancake Day was inaugurated in Canada, guests have donated more than $225,000 for their local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. National Pancake Day began in the U.S. in 2006, and to date has raised $30 million for children’s health.

Between 7AM to 7PM, IHOP Canada is inviting guests to enjoy a complimentary short stack (one per person) of its world famous buttermilk pancakes at participating IHOP Restaurants across the country. In return, guests are asked to help make a difference in the health of the community’s children by leaving a donation of any size with all funds collected going to the local Children’s Miracle Network member hospital in their area.

“National Pancake Day in Canada has become a signature event for IHOP not just for our guests but for our franchisees and their team members, all of whom are passionate about the opportunity to use what IHOP is most famous for—our buttermilk pancakes—to raise money for the health and well-being of children in their neighborhoods,” says Steve Joyce, president, International and chief executive officer DineEquity, Inc. “Thanks to the generous donations of our guests, we have seen our fundraising totals climb every year, and we look forward to another record breaking year of donations.”

Guests may also help support the efforts of Children’s Miracle Network by purchasing a wall icon in increments of $1, $5, $20 or $100 between January 31 and February 27, 2018 to show support. Guests who purchase a $5 wall icon will receive a $5 coupon good for a future purchase of $10 or more (valid at participating restaurants only).

“National Pancake day is a fun and unique way to help the kids in communities all across Canada,” says Mark Hierlihy, president and chief executive officer of Canada’s Children’s Hospital Foundations (Children’s Miracle Network in Canada). “We value Partners like IHOP, and their employees who raise funds for our member hospitals to put towards the most critical needs at their facilities.”

Adds IHOP vice-president and general manager, the Americas, William Urrego: “We love National Pancake Day, because it brings together two elements that are core to the IHOP brand:  building community and giving back. Guests have a chance to experience our famous IHOP hospitality and signature pancakes for free while bonding together over a cause that’s important to every Canadian—the health of our children.”

The concept of Pancake Day is a tradition that dates back several centuries to when the English prepared for fasting during Lent. Strict rules prohibited the eating of all dairy products during Lent, so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter and other dairy products—hence the name Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday.
