Lakeside Plastics rolls out compostable bag line

B.C. plastic company partners with Telles

SALMON ARM, B.C.—Lakeside Plastics is launching a new compostable bag line.

Lakeside will purchase film grade under a supply agreement with Telles in Lowell, Mass.

Telles is a joint venture between Metabolix, Inc., a bioscience company, and Archer Daniels Midland Company, an agricultural processor. The specific terms of the contract have not been disclosed.

The bags, made with Mvera compostable film product, will be for large-volume applications including yard waste and kitchen compost.

A recent report from research firm PIRA forecasted the global market for bioplastic packaging will grow by 24.9 percent annually over the next four years and that flexible packaging will take a growing share of the bioplastics segment.
