GURNEE, Ill.—Platinum Press is a leading supplier of pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging solutions headquartered in Fort Worth, TX with an additional manufacturing site in Oakland, NJ. Its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities are fully equipped and staffed to produce custom pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging.

According to Platinum Press vice-president of sales Andrew Vale (see image above), “It’s always been our goal as a company to be at the forefront of not only technologies, but also helping our clients with their issues—it’s really how we add value. We’ve been able to work with other companies in the industry to create partnerships to address serialization.”

Platinum Press is always looking for ways it can help its customers overcome challenges. The company realized that clients were having trouble with codes on booklet-style labels—labels were covered with a laminate barrier and the codes were rubbing off.

“We reached out to players in the industry, and we talked about the different types of marking technologies that were available. And that’s how we started working with Domino,” Vale explains.

Platinum Press created 48 different label permutations that were sent to Domino Printing’s lab for testing purposes. Domino came back to Platinum Press with a very specific analysis of exactly which one of the permutations worked best. The best solution they identified was Domino’s D320i laser in combination with DataLase, an ink-like product that is placed beneath the laminate, right on the label’s surface, which changes color when it hit with the Domino laser.

Finally, Domino created mark files which carried all the information learned in their lab. Platinum Press’s clients were able to use this information to start serializing different label constructions, with virtually no set up and almost no downtime.

“Although it sounds very easy, in practice, it was a two-year journey—with Domino—to find a solution that would ultimately work,” Vale offers.

“Partnering with Domino was definitely a win for the pharmaceutical industry in general. It couldn’t have been done with just one of us working independently,” concludes Vale.
