Toray Plastics (America), Inc., located in North Kingston, Rhode Island and North America’s only manufacturer of precision-performance polyester and polypropylene films, says that environmental projects launched in 2004 have improved its environmental profile and now annually save the company 17 million gallons of water, 8.5 million KWHs of electricity, and 10.1 billion BTUs.
Those savings are reaped from an array of operational innovations that include zero landfill non-hazardous waste utilization, waste reduction, water conservation and wastewater recycling, best management practices for storm water, condensate heat recovery, HVAC and furnace energy efficiencies, chiller upgrades, lighting improvements and reverse osmosis technology. In addition, the company uses only 100 percent chlorine-free recycled post-consumer-waste paper in its printers and copiers.
