Featuring a new vintage-inspired design, Heinz Ketchup brings back its classic glass bottle for a limited time.

The Pittsburgh, PA-headquartered H. J. Heinz Company has launched a collector’s edition of its Heinz Tomato Ketchup in its iconic glass bottle to the United States.

While available in restaurants in glass, Heinz Ketchup has not been available to the retail market in its classic glass bottle for over a decade until now.

The glass bottle—available between May and August 2011—has a vintage-style logo, as Heinz wants to bring a sense of nostalgia for this year’s barbeque season.

According to Heinz, the label design on this new edition of ketchup was inspired by a vintage package of tomato seeds and is a nod to the farmers who have supplied the company with vegetable for well over a century.

“While the convenience of our current, squeezable bottles found in grocery stores has been a hit with today’s families and their lifestyles, consumers still associate Heinz Ketchup with our iconic glass bottle and routinely ask where they can find them,” states Noel Geoffroy, vice-president of Heinz Brands. “In response to that consumer demand and to inspire memories of and relive good times from summers past, we wanted to bring back the glass bottle with a limited edition design that gives a nod to the product’s 135-year history.”

When Heinz Tomato Ketchup was introduced in 1876, it was bottled in clear glass to reveal its purity. It was not until several years later that the world-famous octagonal bottle debuted. The glass bottle was sold in stores until the 1990s, when it was replaced with the squeezable plastic bottle that was first introduced in 1983.

The limited edition glass bottle Heinz Tomato Ketchup is available in a 14 ounce bottle at select retailers in the U.S., including Walmart and Safeway.
