Arterra Uncorks Innovation with Moderation Wines: Trendsetting the Era of Less-Alcohol Enjoyment

By Media Profile

Alcohol moderation is trending and continuing to grow in Canada, with no- and less-alcohol wine sales expected to grow by 21 per cent and 24 per cent respectively, according to global research company Wine Intelligence. Arterra Wines Canada, Canada’s leading wine producer, is getting ahead of New Year’s resolutions with the launch of two new less- and no-alcohol wine brands to cater to consumers’ evolving drinking habits. The newest less- and no-alcohol wines in Canada are launching at The Wine Rack initially, before being introduced nationally in 2024.

This is part of the company’s strategic approach to diversifying its offerings to reflect some consumers’ evolving relationships with alcohol. It also builds on the success of Arterra’s existing moderation brands, such as BASK low-sugar wines, which have experienced dramatic growth since launching in 2020.

“The sober-curious or moderation-minded have more great tasting wine options,” said John Boynton, Arterra Wines Canada President and CEO. “Innovation goes hand-in-hand with leadership, and we know from experience that there’s a thirst for moderation options. We’re building on the success of our existing offerings in this category and are confident that expanding our less- and no-alcohol wines supports those consumers and their own goals for balance and moderation.”

Sidney is the newest brand in Arterra’s portfolio and features three less-alcohol wines with seven per cent alcohol (compared to the typical 11-to-13 per cent range) in Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Rosé.

The no-alcohol HeavenSent sparkling rosé is a new sub-brand of the popular Saintly wine brand that has become one of the fastest-growing wines in Canada with younger Millennial and Gen Z consumers.

Sidney and HeavenSent are being introduced the first week of January at Arterra’s The Wine Rack retail stores. The brands will have limited in-store availability initially, but can be purchased with same-day delivery through thewinerack.com. Both Sidney and HeavenSent will be available across Canada in coming months through provincial wine and retail partners.

The Wine Rack and Arterra retail partners nationally have seen dramatic growth in the existing range of moderation brands that include Bask 0-g-sugar-per-serving wines, teas and spritzers, On Point one-g-sugar-per-serving wines, Growers Cider Spritz and Jackson Triggs less-alcohol wines.

“This is about growing the range of wines and refreshments that help Canadians achieve the balance they’re seeking. Creating new brands and expanding the available options to include more no- and less-alcohol wines, along with low-sugar or Weight Watchers options, helps us cater directly to consumers’ moderation goals,” said Erika Neudorf, Arterra’s Innovation Director.
