Ampac making moves

Ampac, a Cincinnati, OH-headquartered global leader in the food, pet food, retail, security and medical packaging markets, has announced it will relocate its Elk Grove Village, Illinois pouching facility in 2011.
Thanks to steady growth of its business, the Chicago-area facility of Ampac is moving to a much larger facility 10 miles west in Hanover Park, offering the company a chance to create a more efficient production line while also allowing for future growth of its pouching business.
The new state-of-the-art facility will be 50,000-square-feet larger, and will be specifically designed as a pouching-only operation.
The move is expected to occur Q2 and Q3 of 2011, and is slated to be completed by October 1. All current employees are expected to transfer to the new location with minimal disruption to the business.
In addition to the move to Hanover Park, Ampac has pre-purchased a new Totani Corporation BH-60DG-F (SG-6) Box Pouch making machine (see photo above) that will make its debut at Interpack 2011 to be held in Dusseldorf Germany on May 12-18, 2011. Totani is a Kyoto, Japan-headquartered global leader in the manufacture of plastic bag and pouch making machines.
The BH-60DG-F machine is the third pouch format Ampac has added within the past 12 months to its line of Totani pouch machines running E-Z ZIP, including plow bottom and inserted stand up pouch.
The new machine provides Ampac with the first machine with two-up box pouch capability. The Totani Box Pouch maker can be used in a wide range of packaging applications, including food such as candy and cereal, pharmaceuticals, household cleaning products and other liquids, pet food, medical bags, pouches and multi-pack pouch formats.
The machine has five panel registered print capability and can accommodate most laminated films used in pouches for food and industrial applications. A savings of approximately 12 per cent in film is realized when compared to a conventional stand up pouch with the same fill capacity. Totani’s technology realizes both high-speed box pouch making (up to 200 pouches/minute), as well as high-quality, high strength sealing which makes the box pouch suitable for storage and transportation of not only solids, but also liquids due to its high seal integrity.
