YORK, Pa.—Westfalia Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of logistics solutions for manufacturers and distributors since 1992, has been named a Food Logistics Top Green Provider for the fifth consecutive year.
With its “Go Green with High Density” warehouse automation solutions, Westfalia continues to help food and beverage companies reduce land usage, energy consumption and waste within their supply chains.
The Top Green Providers list recognizes companies whose products, services or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage industry.
Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the US EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs; facilities that are LEED-certified, and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measure reductions in GHG emissions, to name a few.

As a result, companies are able to reduce their overall building footprint by up to 50 percent and expand their storage capacity by 30 to 50 percent (when compared to conventional warehouses). In addition, Westfalia’s clients typically see an average energy cost reduction of 40 percent because automated warehouses require fewer interior lights and less space to heat and cool.
With Westfalia’s www.Savanna.NET Warehouse Execution System (WES), companies can control and optimize material flow, allowing warehouses with time-sensitive products to employ first-expired, first-out (FEFO) inventory management to minimize product waste due to expiration dates. Also, Westfalia’s AS/RS eliminates fork trucks so there is no need for battery charging stations, thus fewer batteries end up in landfills.
