Sensor products play a key role in keeping washroom facilities clean

BRAMPTON, Ont. — There is little doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has permanently transformed our society in many ways.

Perhaps the most notable difference has been the change in how people feel about public spaces, especially when it comes to cleanliness and personal hygiene. Employees and patrons need to know that the facilities where they work and visit are as safe as possible.

One of the best ways to do this is by having clean and efficient washrooms. Installing fixtures like sensor-activated faucets and flush valves help to minimize the spread of germs by reducing the amount of surfaces that people touch. These fixtures are also more energy and water efficient since they are only activated when needed.

“Reliable sensor faucets and flush valves are vital tools for today’s building managers,” says Adam Findlay, Digital Sales Manager for Zurn Canada. “People expect public facilities to take advantage of every resource available to them in order to provide the safest and cleanest environment possible.”

Another resource that Zurn provides for building managers is their Connected line of products. Connected products consist of faucets, flush valves and back flow preventers that use a series of sensors to monitor performance and water use, then analyze the data to provide real-time insights on the plumbing and fixtures in the building. These insights are delivered through Zurn’s easy-to-use plumbSMART interface, which can be accessed through a website or mobile app. Connected products can either be installed during new builds, or existing facilities can be retrofitted with Connected sensors.

When Connected faucets and flush valves are both installed in the same restroom, they can even capture the wash/flush ratio to produce a handwashing score. Knowing the handwashing score helps building managers ensure people are following proper hand-washing protocols, and these systems can increase hand washing frequency by as much as 50 per cent.

Whether it be sensor faucets, Connected products or another hygienic solution, one thing is clear – the pandemic has put a spotlight on cleanliness and personal hygiene. Now is the time for building managers to take a leading role in creating the safest facilities possible.
