Corrugated DrumKit can be beat!

A few years ago, Canadian Packaging noted how one designer had created a working bicycle built from old corrugated – HERE.
Last year, someone even created a one-off electric stratocaster guitar made from corrugated – HERE
Now, Obilab, from France, is constructing a corrugated DrumKit that can be easily collapsed and carried like a backpack, making it easy to set up and practice or simply move between gigs.
Obilab had produced 150 of the corrugated drum kits – which sold out almost immediately, and has now created the improved Version 2 DrumKit after feedback from the original DrumKit users.
DrumKit consists of six main components that are each topped with fiberglass to reinforce where the non-corrugated drumsticks will strike:
- kick drum with pedal, where the top of the bass drum can be used as a floor tom;
- closed hi-hat or shaker;
- snare drum;
- dedicated tom with higher sounds in the center and lower tones at the edge;
- drum stool and cajon that does double-duty as the corrugated carrying backpack;
- pair of bamboo drum sticks.
The best part? Everything together only weighs two kilograms (4.4 lbs).
For the parent who now regrets purchasing a standard drum kit for their Neil Peart wannabe son or daughter, the corrugated DrumKit is, according to Obilab, about 10 times more quiet.
Worried about rain? While not waterproof—so no drumming in the pool—it is water-resistent while in backpack mode, and in case of impending wet weather, DrumKit can be taken down quickly.
Said to take approximately two minutes to rebuild, Obilab says it is a pretty robust musical instrument that will last as long as a musical instrument that is treated as a musical instrument, though the company says plans are afoot to sell individual components next year.
For the younger set, Obilab also offers DrumKid, with a smaller overall design, but no floor tom.
Plans are also coming along to add an electronic module which is connects the DrumKit to a computer or other smart device.
Utilizing Kickstarter, Obilab is offering the DrumKit for €99 (CDN $143) and the DrumKid for €79 (CDN $114).
