Prison terms range from 16 months to 15 years for fake jerky scam.

Limited to within China, a meat processing plant manufactured fake beef jerky by adding beef powders, caramel pigment and other additives to pork producing between 250- to 500-kilograms of the fake beef jerky every day from June 2014 through January 2015.

On March 31, 2016, a court in China sentenced 10 people involved in the fraud to prison sentences between 16 months to 15 years.

The man who asked the meat processor for the products to be falsely created received a 15-year prison term and was fined four million yuan (~CDN $810,000).

Away from their meats processing facility, the company owner and his wife rented three rooms in a remote village top produce the fake product. Other family members also participated.

The meats processor received a 15-year prison term and a 1.5-million yuan (~CDN $300,000 fine).
