Markem-Imaje, a world manufacturer of product identification and traceability solutions, has enhanced its 5000 Series high-resolution direct case coding product line, making it the most comprehensive offering on the market today. This means that packaging professionals have more choices to select the model most applicable to their particular needs.

The latest addition to the 5000 Series is the 5800 high-resolution, large character inkjet printer (IJP). The 5800 is the next generation in hot melt technology, providing a solution for printing clear, consistent, text, graphics and GS1 compliant barcodes on cases, trays and shrink wraps.

The 5800 hot melt IJP utilizes Markem-Imaje TouchDry hot melt ink technology. This instant dry, solvent-free ink will never bleed or fade for the life of the case. Barcodes printed with TouchDry technology are reliably 100 per cent readable and GS1 compliant. Touch Dry is also the cleanest large character IJP technology on the market.

Also joining this high-performance series of printers is the 5600 high resolution, liquid IJP. The 5600, featuring liquid piezo technology, prints high quality graphics, text and readable barcodes on porous corrugate cases and trays. Markem-Imaje utilizes a patent pending glycol-ether based quick-drying ink that delivers superior opacity, providing a high quality, economic, and efficient answer for manufacturers who need to maximize contrast, while minimizing ink consumption.

The unique rigid ink management system consists of a large capacity, self-contained cartridge, which was designed to recover purged ink and to be easily replaced during production. Further efficiency can be achieved with programmable printhead care which can occur at the users’ convenience, reducing downtime.

The new compact modular design of these printers is easily integrated into existing production lines, carton erectors or tapers.

Both the 5800 and 5600 boast improved form and function over the existing 5000 Series printers, including a smaller footprint design; next generation, intuitive icon-based user interface; usability and integration features; USB connectivity for simplified file data transport; and lower energy consumption, to meet current market requirements.

Markem-Imaje’s 5000 Series printers work as stand-alone or completely integrated units on a wide range of substrates and environments, ranging from 0° to 40°C (32° to 104°F) at printing speeds of up to 182 meters per minute. The printers can be used in conjunction with CoLOS Enterprise software and can also be equipped with an optional printhead slide assembly for precise print gap control to ensure optimal print quality
