Who doesn’t light up when touched?

A new outer package for Bombay Sapphire gin lights up when touched.

Thanks to a hidden switch at the base of the packaging, electroluminescent inks glow in an 18-second animation cycle until activated again.

Developed by Webb deVlam, a leading brand strategy and design company headquartered in London  (with an office in Chicago), for Bombay Sapphire‘s travel market, the package’s design utilizes an illustration created by Yehrin Tong.

As the switch is triggered, electric current is conducted from a battery below the package up to the inks, causing it to ‘animate’ in a glowing light.

Says Webb seVlam creative director Dominic Burke, “This is a first in the packaging market… We aim to keep raising the bar with each design in this range.”

The gin is available via the Global Travel Retail pack developed by Webb deVlam with German packaging manufacturer Karl Knauer. The gin and illuminating package are only available at travel and duty-free markets.

Launched in 1987, Bombay Sapphire is a brand of gin manufactured by Bombay Spirits Co. Ltd. and distributed by Bacardi Limited.
