Crown Specialty Packaging commissioned to create Royal wedding cake holder.

When their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were married on April 29, 2011 in a ceremony celebrated around the world by 2.5 billion viewers, Crown was there–CROWN Speciality Packaging Europe, that is.

CROWN, a business unit of Crown Holdings, Inc., was commissioned by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to create a decorative tin holding, as tradition requires, a slice of the Royal couple’s wedding cake.

The tins were given away to all guests at the wedding and many others.

The refined rectangular tin is the first to feature the Royal couple’s official cipher. Underneath are the couple’s first names, “William & Catherine,” and their wedding date, custom-molded in stylish calligraphy. All components on the tin were made from Fine Stone finish tinplate, printed externally and coated with gold lacquer internally.

The four symbols of the United Kingdom are printed in fine detail on each corner of the tin: the rose for England, the thistle for Scotland, the shamrock for Northern Ireland and the daffodil for Wales.

“This quality commemorative gift is a unique piece that will enter British history. Collectors will be seeking out this keepsake for years to come,” says Michael Nyland, sales development manager of CROWN Speciality Packaging Europe.
