General Controlled Atmosphere Packaging WeighPack Systems

WeighPack Systems—a leading manufacturer of a complete range of top-quality weighing and packaging equipment has added a Controlled Atmosphere Packaging (CAP) option to its Swifty Bagger 3600 and 1200 equipment.

CAP involves the removal of air from a package once the bag has been filled with product, replace it with an inert gas (often Nitrogen and CO2–carbon dioxide) that suspends product deterioration and extends shelf life up to 10 times before sealing the bag.

As typical vacuum/gas flushing can be a slow process of 10 to 12 bags per minute (bpm), WeighPack’s Swifty Baggers:

  • are able to achieve between 25 – 30 bpm;
  • can either gas flush or vacuum seal the bag or do both;
  • CAP assembly includes a 10 CFM vacuum pump with a filtering device to capture any floating product;
  • have a single- or dual-snorkel that plunges into the bag to activate process;
  • use a traveling rail mechanism applies tension on bag and moves it synchronously with the functioning stations;
  • handles pouches, stand-up and flat bottom bag types ranging in size up to 12 inches wide by 18 inches long;
  • bag features include: zippers, carry handles and gussets;
  • uses an Allen Bradley PLC and touch screen.
