In surprising news, Maple Leaf Foods announced the closure of its processing plant in Thamesford, Ont. in early 2018, causing the eventual loss of approximately 400 people.

The Thamesford faciliy is a turkey processing plant, but with the closure, Maple Leaf Foods will outsource its work to a Sofina Foods plant in Mitchell, Ont.

Apparently workers were completely blindsided by the news of the closure

Maple Leaf Foods said the Thamesford plant was too old and not feasible to maintain.
