General Multivac New facility for MultivacNew center in Germany to better optimize European inventory control.
Wolfertschwenden, Germany—MULTIVAC performed a ground-breaking ceremony for a new distribution center in Wolfertschwenden, Germany to be completed by the end of 2015.
The investment volume amounts to 11.9 million euro (~$17 million). The distribution center will cover an area of 5,400 square meters (58, 125 square feet) and will be equipped with the newest and most efficient storage systems.
“The investment is meant to further optimize the spare part provisioning of our 17 European affiliates,” says Hans-Joachim Boekstegers, director and chief executive officer at MULTIVAC. “At the same time, there will arise advantages in regard to the material supply for the manufacturing of packaging machines at this facility. One of MULTIVAC’s factors of success is that we take care of the spare part supply of installed machines worldwide. By implementing the new distribution center we are able to further optimize the availability and lead time for our spare parts. The new distribution center will be the first step in the redirection of our distribution concept, with additional centers in other regions being planned.”
Guests at the ground-breaking ceremony included: Hans-Joachim Weirather, chief administrative officer of the Landkreis Unterallgäu; and Karl Fleschhut, mayor of Wolfertschwenden.
The MULTIVAC group has approximately 4,300 employees worldwide, with about 1,600 based at the headquarters in Wolfertschwenden.
