La Maison Maille celebrates 270 years with new Extra Hot Cornichons!

La Maison Maille, the leading brand of French premium condiments has created a new cornichon flavor exclusively for the Canadian palate as a way of celebrating its 270th anniversary.

Launching first in the Canadian market in Mach 2017 before global distribution, Cayenne Chilli Pepper gherkins (cornichons) are packed with a unique crunchiness and bursts of fiery flavor, and are a hot bite opening a new realm of possibilities in the kitchen.

Measuring a whopping 308 on the Scoville Heat Unit, these cayenne peppers are expected to address the current growing consumer trend for spicy, savory eats.

Enjoy these gherkins/cornichons alongside grilled meat, added into sauces or for an unexpected flavor and bold flavor to your own secret dishes. Try them as garnishes for cocktails, mixed in with fresh vegetables or add them to a cheese or charcuterie board.

Maille Extra Hot Cornichons will be available in supermarkets for CDN $6.49.

The all new Extra Hot Cornichons will be the fifth addition to the Maille family of cornichons, including the newly launched Carmelized Onion Cornichons.

Although cornichons may look like miniature pickles, they are a tad different, and a lot more delicious, according to Maille. Cornichons are smaller and crunchier with a characteristic acidity that lends it the unique, slightly sour taste.

Because  they can double in size in less than 12 hours, the cucumbers that are used to make Maille cornichons are closely monitored and hand-selected when the concentration of flavor is at its peak. Once harvested, these nubby condiments are placed in vinegar to preserve their freshness and signature crunch until they are bottled and combined with mustard seed and fresh herbs, or in the case of the new flavor—hot cayenne peppers.
