Kraft moves towards corporate restructuring.

Kraft Foods Inc. is prepared to chop some 1,600 positions across North America in 2012 in anticipation of its corporate restructuring that will see it split its snack and grocery business into separate entities to improve effectiveness.

While Kraft has 5,800 employees in Canada, no numbers regarding proposed job cuts were announced, though lost jobs will mostly involve sales, corporate and other business units in the U.S. and Canada.

Planned job cuts will not take place at any manufacturing facilities, and while Kraft says it won’t reduce its manufacturing, it did state that two of its four U.S. grocery management centers will be eliminated.

With approximately 127,000 employees worldwide – including 46,500 in N.A. – the 1,600 job cuts represent about 1.26 per cent of the company’s total workforce.
