New facility doubles Flexicon facility size.
BETHLEHEM, PA—Flexicon Corporation marked its 40-year anniversary with completion of the 91,000-square-foot (8,500-square-meter) building envelope that doubles the size of its US headquarters
“With walls, roof and floor now complete, and mechanical systems underway, we are on track to fully occupy the space by March of this year,” says Flexicon president David Gill (see photo above).
The new facility increases the size of the company’s Steel Forming, Welding, Grinding/Polishing and Blasting/Painting departments two-fold and the Electrical Controls department four-fold. The Assembly department will be eight-times larger, and provide 38 feet (11.6 meters) of ceiling clearance for Factory Acceptance Testing of larger systems.
Office space will also expand to a total of 37,000 square feet (3,400 square meters), housing executive offices, six conference rooms, the Electrical Engineering department and meeting/training rooms with 400-seat capacity.
“Doubling the size of our U.S. headquarters is a fitting way to mark Flexicon’s anniversary and exponential growth,” explains Gill.
The company was formed by William S. Gill who began manufacturing flexible screw conveyors, which by 1988 reached eight inches (20 centimeters) in diameter, an industry first. Other major introductions include Bulk-Out bulk bag unloaders and weigh batching versions in 1993, Twin-Centerpost bulk bag fillers in 1995, Pneumati-Con pneumatic conveying systems in 2002, Swing-Down bulk bag fillers in 2004, Split-Frame Bulk-Out Bulk Bag Unloaders in 2005, Block-Buster Hydraulic Bulk Bag Conditioners in 2007, Tip-Tite Drum/Box/Container Dumpers in 2009 and Flexi-Disc Tubular Cable Conveyors in 2013.
Today, the company holds 36 patents in 13 countries, has operations in the U.K., Australia, South Africa, Chile and Singapore, and produces hundreds of models of flexible screw conveyors, tubular cable conveyors, pneumatic conveying systems, bulk bag dischargers, bulk bag conditioners, bulk bag fillers, bag dump stations, drum/box/container dumpers, and weigh batching systems. A separate Project Engineering division manages large-scale bulk handling projects across the chemical, mineral, food, dairy and pharmaceutical industries worldwide.
