General Bottling Constar UK Esterform Packaging Limited Mergers and Acquisitions in the Packaging Industry: 2008 Annual Deal Review plastic bottle manufacturing

Acquisition supports expansion plans for PET bottle manufacturer Esterform.

Esterform Packaging Limited has announced it has acquired the business of Constar UK based at Sherburn-in Elmet in the United Kingdom. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Esterform manufactures 1.5 billion PET (plastic – Polyethylene terephthalate) preforms and containers from its two sites in Tenbury Wells and Leeds. This acquisition will take the group’s overall capability to in excess of three billion units.

Esterform’s founder Mark Tyne says, “‘The two companies manufacture very similar products with a good deal of duplicate tooling, so it makes perfect sense to merge Constar into the Esterform group.”

This form of expansion is not new to Esterform who have acquired both Able Industries and Pet Plas Packaging since its formation in 2000.

The acquisition of Constar goes alongside Esterform’s announcement three weeks ago of its £8-million (CDN ~$15-million) investment in state-of-the-art manufacturing technology.
