ConAgra Foods acquires Del Monte Canada

Acquisition includes Del Monte–branded packaged fruit and vegetable products, Aylmer tomato products and a manufacturing facility in Dresden, Ont.

TORONTOConAgra Foods has acquired packaged fruit and vegetable-maker Del Monte Canada.

The acquisition includes all Del Monte–branded packaged fruit and vegetable products, Aylmer tomato products, a manufacturing facility in Dresden, Ont. and Del Monte’s headquarters offices in Canada.

Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Del Monte Canada was built on a collection of under-performing, non–core food businesses operated by Kraft before being acquired by a Sun Capital affiliate in 2006.

The transaction marks the second time that Sun Capital has sold an affiliate to ConAgra Foods. In April 2010, ConAgra purchased Elan Nutrition, a contract developer and manufacturer of nutritional bars.

ConAgra Foods Inc.is one of North America’s leading food companies, with brands including Chef Boyardee, Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn, Peter Pan peanut butter and Snack Pack pudding cups.
