Production start planned for Q1 2024

Brampton, May 2023 – Albéa Tubes reaches a new milestone in its journey towards more sustainable packaging. With a production start planned in 2024, the company will produce the Greenleaf recycle-ready plastic laminate web at its Brampton, Ont. facility. This initiative aims to reinforce the Brampton plant as a global centre of excellence for web manufacturing in North America, while providing local sourcing and responsible solutions for customers.

The Brampton facility, established in 2000, specializes in extrusion lamination of multi-layer web for aluminum-barrier laminate (ABL) tubes for personal care and cosmetics, oral-care, pharma, industrial and food products.

In line with the company’s CSR road map, and in order to support the transition from ABL tubes to more responsible solutions such as the all-plastic laminate Greenleaf tubes, Albéa is investing in new equipment to implement the Greenleaf technology in Brampton. Albéa’s recycle-ready Greenleaf, certified by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and RecyClass, ensures that packaging is compatible with the existing HDPE bottles recycling streams.

“This expansion reflects Albéa’s commitment to our employees, to our customers and to our environment with the transition from non-recyclable into recyclable web,” explains Bruno de Carvalho, VP and General Manager of Albéa Tubes America. “The transition from ABL to PBL has already started in the market and many brands have already committed to switching their tubes to recyclable HDPE tubes with Albea’s Greenleaf within the next three years. Greenleaf is estimated to represent 70 per cent of our tube mix in North America in 2025. It is, therefore, important for us to stay a step ahead by providing our customers with local solutions that support their sustainability goals.”

During the transition to more sustainable packages, Albéa Brampton will continue to offer ABL foil laminates for pharmaceutical topical creams and ointments, as well as related products.
