On Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Mississauga Convention Centre, PPEC — Paper & Paperboard Packaging Environmental Council — will host its third annual environmental event for the paper packaging industry that will, quite literally, help separate fact from fiction.
‘Cutting Through The Greenwash III’ is a half-day seminar that will discuss: the truth about trees; what you can say about recycled content in Canada; recovery rates, recyclability and compostability; scorecards and calculators, so they make sense?; and the good, the bad and the ugly about life cycle analysis.
As well, the morning seminar will feature two keynote speakers as well as a panel of retailers and brandowners discussing sustainability and environmental issues.
- Dwight Schmidt, president of the Fibre Box Association (FBA). The FBA represents North American manufacturers of corrugated, and is a member of the Corrugated Packaging Alliance that recently released the first-ever ISO meeting life cycle analysis of the average corrugated box.
- Laura Rowell, director of sustainable packaging with MeadWestvaco. The company is a founding member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition. She represents MeadWestvaco on the Global Packaging Project, EUROPEN, and is co-chair of the Paperboard Packaging Council‘s Sustainability Task Force.
- Other speakers include: Catherine McVitty, manager of North American corporate responsibility programs for Unilever Canada; Jefferey Fitzpatrick-Stilwell, manager of sustainability and government relations for McDonalds Canada; plus invited guests from Sobeys Inc. and Kraft Canada Inc..
With an open floor discussion encouraged, the time is right to hear from sustainability efforts and how you and your company can arm yourself against greenwashing.
