On June 7, 2016, Canadian Packaging magazine held its fourth annual well-attended Top 50 Packaging Ideas Expo to a resounding success—proof of which can be found in the photos below!

Held at the Mississauga Convention Centre, the 2016 Top 50 Packaging Ideas Expo was sponsored by QuickLabel Systems—a leading manufacturer of production-capacity, full-color digital label printers, barcode printers, and labeling software that allow businesses to “print your own labels” on-demand.

The event was well-attended by hundreds of enthusiastic visitors, much to the delight of the 31 tabletop exhibitors, who vied for attention with a bevy of brilliant packaging ideas and concepts.

For visitors, not only was it an opportunity to see the latest in technologies and ideas made real, it was an opportune time to impress buyers looking for ways to either improve their production line or for ways to take their brand to the next level, or even to showcase how they can best perform for customers needing some much appreciated help.

The well-attended Top 50 Packaging Ideas Expo also offered three seminar sessions presented by:

  • PMMI vice-president of industry services Tom Egan: how CPG production operations continue to deliver performance while addressing SKU proliferation, e-commerce, changing supply chain, and unrelenting cost pressures. Egan provided a dynamic perspective on these changes and discussed how to capitalize on applying operational excellence practices to today’s leading trends in packaging materials and machinery.
  • Mohawk College‘s School of Mechanical Engineering professor Robert Gerritsen who is also the lead researcher at the Additive Manufacturing Resource Centre: who provided a fascinating look at the latest  developments in 3D Printing and the implications for “open sourcing” of packaging machine parts.
  • FlexLink’s Jeff Jones—an excellent true-last minute replacement for colleague and global product manager for the FMCG segment Danny Parson—who provided insight on hygienic conveyor design while discussing food safety.

Sweet Deal

The Top 50 Packaging Ideas Expo also presented an award given to the exhibiting company that, as determined by visitors and fellow exhibitors, that showcased the most innovative packaging idea.

Won by CAM Packaging Systems of Aurora, Ont. who showcased its Digital Media Kiosk, that has been described as a vending store on wheels with the added bonus of providing visual fun and marketing information.
