New Japanese LCD uses 1% electricity of competitors

A boon to signage, Japan Display Inc. reveals a reflective-type color LCD that is 100 times more energy efficient than standard conventional LCDs.

According to a recent article in the Japanese newspaper the Asahi Shimbun, Japan Display Inc., a liquid crystal display manufacturer, has created an improved reflective-type color LCD that uses only one percent of the electricity needed for other conventional models.

While the company says it wants to promote the technology for wearable devices and outdoor signs, Canadian Packaging wonders if some smart person could find a use for it in the packaging industry.
