Crawford Packaging and Spencer//Butcher Group with Intertape Polymer Group install first-ever semi-automatic water-activated tape case sealer in Canada.

Crawford Packaging, a leading packaging equipment and materials supplier in Canada, working with Intertape Polymer Group (IPG), has recently installed the first ever semi-automatic water-activated tape case sealer in Canada at a packaging facility of Spencer//Butcher Group.

Spencer//Butcher Group approached Crawford Packaging after their client required revision to their existing packaging solution. The change involved using a stronger, reinforced water-activated tape to seal the cases for the client’s winter wheel program.

Spencer//Butcher Group contacted Crawford Packaging to inquire about available water-activated tape packaging solutions. Crawford and Spencer//Butcher considered a variety of different water-activated tape solutions. These ranged from low initial costs on multiple water-activated tape dispensers with high manpower requirements to high initial cost automated solutions that required less manpower.

Crawford consulted their partner IPG, the only North American manufacturer of semi-automatic top and bottom water-activated tape case sealers. Crawford Packaging then presented Spencer//Butcher Group with IPG’s patented Auto H2O USA 2024-WAT Semi-Automatic Uniform Case Sealer. This new water-activated case sealer promotes high throughput speeds, requires minimal maintenance and features easy to load tape rolls to minimize down time while providing the sealing strength of reinforced Water Activated tape.

“At Crawford, we are always looking to for new and innovative packaging equipment. This allows us to bring more efficient, knowledge based packaging solutions to our clients,” says Crawford Packaging vice-president of sales Andy Craig. “The new line of IPG Auto H2O case sealers are perfect for businesses that process large volumes of cases requiring a strong, secure seal or use cases with high recycled material content.”

Spencer//Butcher Group has added two semi-automatic, top and bottom USA-2024-WAT case sealers to their packaging solution. These water-activated tape case sealing systems process higher case volumes, doing the job of four case taping machines used by Spencer//Butcher Group prior to the change.

“My customers tell me that they love how easy the machine is to use,” says IPG’s Carmine Paris. “They just fold the flaps of the cases and guide them into the machine. The Auto H2O does the rest.”

This knowledge-based solution from Crawford Packaging has increased Spencer//Butcher Groups Winter Wheel Programs productivity and throughput while reducing the required labor, which helps them reduce the overall cost per pack, driving its business performance to higher levels.
