German grocer Original Unverpackt looks to become the country's first package-free supermarket.

Opening this summer, Original Unverpackt in Berlin, will become Germany’s first package-free supermarket with customers bringing their own containers, can borrow reusable containers from the store or, if they must, use bags made from recycled paper.

The store which will offer organic foods, conventional lower-cost items, cosmetics and more, will follow a “zero waste” company protocol to effectively reduce some of the 16-million tons of packaging waste generated by Germany alone.
