Sustainability Cascades Greenest employers

Cascades, located in Kinglsey Falls, Que., was recently named one of Canada’s greenest employers in 2009 by Mediacorp—a Singapore-based multi-media company—to employers that blend environmental values into their corporate culture and demonstrate initiative in this area.

The key reasons for designating Cascades one of Canada’s greenest employers are:

  • its status as the country’s largest old papers recoverer;
  • the chlorine-free process it uses when producing tissue and fine papers;
  • its use of biogas to meet its energy needs;
  • its Cascades Eco-Hero contest, intended to recognize an employee who helps protect the environment in his or her day-to-day life, and;
  • the company’s support of various environmental organizations, such as Earth Day.

Founded in 1964, Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products composed mainly of recycled fibers. The company employs close to 13,000 men and women who work in more than 100 modern and flexible production units located in North America and Europe.
