Alcan Packaging, a global leader in value-added specialty packaging and a business unit of Rio Tinto Alcan, is launching a worldwide campaign—Sustainability Moments—to coincide with World Environment Day celebrations this June 5, 2009.
Held annually on June 5, World Environment Day is one of the ways the United Nations stimulates global awareness of the environment to spur political attention and action.
Alcan’s internal campaign is intended to increase awareness and educate employees about sustainability throughout the next year.
“Sustainability is a core value for Alcan Packaging, and we hope this will inspire all our employees to organise activities that will positively contribute to our communities and the environment,” states Jean-Christophe Deslarzes, president and chief executive officer, Downstream Aluminium Businesses and Alcan Packaging.
All sites have been supplied with Alcan Packaging’s newly developed catalogue offering various activity ideas to promote sustainability in their local areas, such as a design contest, planting trees, landscaping of neighbouring sites, and more.
To emphasise World Environment Day celebrations, the Sustainability Moments campaign will have each Alcan site hold Sustainability Challenge game sessions for its employees. The Sustainability Challenge educational game was developed by Alcan Packaging to spark open discussion about environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability.
