Pentaform Smartcycle films product line's new film made entirely from recycled beverage bottles.

Gordonsville, Virginia—The Klöckner Pentaplast Group‘s Pentaform SmartCycle film product line now includes a film made entirely from recycled beverage bottles.

Unlike standard PCR (post-consumer recycled) films available in the market today which combine PCR content and virgin resin, Pentaform SmartCycle TH-ES100 films are designed to help customers meet their sustainability goals for visual packaging applications.

Ideal for face-seal, tray, and trapped blister thermoformed applications, Pentaform SmartCycle films offer exceptional clarity and processability on standard thermoforming and form/fill/seal equipment. With over 20 years of polyester production experience,  is a leading global producer of rigid polyester films and is the exclusive global supplier of SmartCycle packaging films.

Through its own bottle recycling facility, Klöckner Pentaplast has recovered over 11.6 billion plastic bottles to transform potential waste into a valuable new use with its SmartCycle packaging films. By using post-consumer recycled content from beverage bottles, SmartCycle films save natural resources and energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, keep waste out of landfills, and help spur bottle collection.

SmartCycle films provide a plastic packaging option to consumer product companies and retailers while building long-term value by helping them move toward their sustainable packaging goals.

Because the SmartCycle logo can be included on the plastic containers using this film, consumers can make educated choices on their purchases. SmartCycle films are engineered for thermoform, food, and box packaging applications with guaranteed PCR content range of 25- to 100 per cent, as well as heat-seal (25 per cent and 50 per cent PCR) and RF-seal (35 per cent PCR) formulations.

Food-grade SmartCycle films comply with all USFDA (United States Food & Drug  Administration) regulations for direct food contact, as well as all applicable European Union regulations and directives for food contact. SmartCycle films are certified to meet U.S. domestic packaging regulations. SmartCycle films are also California RPPC, RoHS, and CONEG heavy metals compliant.

Klöckner Pentaplast engaged NSF International to provide independent, third-party verification of post-consumer recycled content claims for the entire line of SmartCycle rigid polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films according to the requirements of ISO 14021 environmental labels and declarations – Self-declared environmental claims (Type II environmental labeling) – and 16 CFR Part 260 Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims.

“Pentaform SmartCycle 100 per cent post-consumer-recycled content films were developed to help meet customers’ sustainable packaging goals,” notes Peter Gianniny, Klöckner Pentaplast’s thermoforming packaging films business manager for the Americas. “The expansion of our Pentaform SmartCycle thermoform packaging film range to include these unique films continues to provide our customers with the broadest selection of high-performance films available in the global marketplace today.”
