Mississauga, ON—Pepsi Next, a new, naturally sweetened cola with 30 percent less sugar than the leading regular cola, arrived on Canadian store shelves in early March 2014, with an invitation from the Pepsi brand to ‘Taste It To Believe It’.

Debuting in Canada at the 2014 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic on March 2, 2014 (of which Pepsi was the official soft drink), Pepsi Next cola was tasted by tens of thousands of eager consumers who tried the new cola beverage for the first time.

“This is the first cola in Canada that is naturally sweetened, has 30 percent less sugar and calories with great cola taste,” said PepsiCo Beverages Canada director of marketing Ryan Collis. “Response to the taste of the product and the fun interactions we had with consumers during our launch weekend were overwhelmingly positive.”

Pepsi Next cola is sweetened with sugar and stevia extract—a natural sweetener that comes from the leaves of the stevia plant—and contains 100 calories per 355mL can; 30 percent less calories than the leading regular cola.

Vancouver Gets A Taste
The Pepsi Next brand made a splash in Vancouver over the weekend of March 2, 2014, as experiential sampling teams showed up in unexpected places surprising Canadians with a chance to score 2014 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic tickets and inviting them to be among the first in Canada to taste this new cola. Pepsi Next “Naturally Sweet Seats”, special chairs made from hockey sticks and signed by Vancouver Canucks hockey players, were toured through the streets of Vancouver and given away as part of the fun.

“The Pepsi brand DNA is about living in the moment, with the excitement of now, and we wanted to launch Pepsi Next in a way that celebrates that spirit,” said Collis.

Pepsi Next cola will be available in 591mL bottles and 12-packs of 355mL cans everywhere Pepsi products are sold.
