Gay Lea Foods acquires Salerno Dairy

General acquisitions cheese Gay Lea Foods Italian cheese manufacturers in Ontario Salerno Dairy

Gay Lea deal includes two manufacturing facilities and a distribution center.

MISSISSAUGA, Ont.—Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Ltd. has agreed to purchase Salerno Dairy, a Hamilton, Ont.-based Italian cheese maker.

Gay Lea Foods will acquire Salerno Dairy and two of its Hannon, Ont. area plants, as well as a warehouse and distribution centre in Montreal.

Salerno employs a total of 185 people, producing the Salerno, Gos and Gris brands.

“This acquisition will allow Gay Lea to establish relationships with new customers and to build on existing partnerships with new offerings and opportunities,” president and CEO Andrew MacGillivray said in a release. “This acquisition holds great promise for the years ahead.”

Adds Salerno CEO Angelo Fidanza: “We believe Gay Lea Foods will do an excellent job of carrying forward our heritage of quality and our dedication to fine cheese.”

Gay Lea Foods is Ontario’s largest dairy co-operative, with 1,200 members and 650 employees.
