Consumption of dairy to rise by 30 per cent globally

Tetra Pak Dairy Index expects a large rise in global consumption of dairy products through 2020.

New research from Tetra Pak—a global processing and packaging solutions company featuring aseptic technology—forecasts a rise of around 30 per cent in global consumption of milk and other liquid dairy products from 2010 to 2020.

Economic growth and demographic changes are driving demand for all types of liquid dairy products.

In its fourth issue of the Tetra Pak Dairy Index that focuses on the emerging middle class, Tetra Pak says it expects the emerging Asian economies to grow and grow quickly causing a demand for more dairy products.

  • Greater diversification of consumer needs;
  • Sustainability and green credentials as a “must-have” for businesses;
  • Shift from “loose milk” to packaged milk.
