PAC—The Packaging Association is holding a one day HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) course on June 5, 2012 to assist plant managers and quality assurance personnel of packaging companies become compliant with the IFS PACsecure food safety HACCP standard for individual packaging materials.
Recently, the PAC joined forced with Germany-based, global standard owner IFS Management GmbH (IFS) to achieve international recognition of PAC’s PACsecure food safety standard for individual packaging materials.
IFS owns the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) IFS Food standard, the IFS Logistics and other supply chain standards with more than 12,000 certifications globally.
The IFS PACsecure food safety standard for packaging materials will shortly be submitted for GFSI benchmarking and is expected to be available around the world in the fall of 2012.
In anticipation of that event, this one-day event will provide packaging manufacturers what they will require for proper IFS PACsecure certification.
Course facilitators include Larry Shortt, former manager of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs for Jones Packaging, the first company to become PACsecure certified; and Larry Dworkin, who serves on the Global Food Safety Initiative technical packaging work group.
The morning session will focus on good manufacturing practices for external and internal premises: transportation, receiving and storage equipment; personnel, sanitation and pest control; terrorism and security; and recall and traceability. To be followed by a break out session dealing with these issues.
The afternoon session will concentrate on the HACCP standards developed specifically for flexible plastics, rigid plastics, paper, metal, and glass packaging materials. To be followed by a break-out session dealing with hazard identification and control.
Each participating firm will receive a copy of the standard and a workbook relating to the packaging material they use.
