Industry 4.0: Festo’s “eMotion Butterflies” bionics to be featured at Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show (CMTS), September 25-28, 2017.

Mississauga, ON—“Industry 4.0 is more than a buzzword, it’s here, it’s real products that will further enhance manufacturing productivity,” says Festo Canada president and chief executive officer Roger Hallet.

Festo’s “eMotion Butterflies”, developed by Festo’s Bionic Learning Network, will fly for the first time in Toronto at the Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show (CMTS) September 25-28, 2017.

These live demonstrations are open to all CMTS attendees, with three shows daily on September 25-27 and two on September 28 at the show venue: the International Centre, Mississauga, ON.

The Bionic Learning Network is known for innovative R&D that takes inspiration from nature to find simple, yet highly efficient techniques like manipulation, movement and positioning that can be incorporated into new products for industry. Festo solutions coming to market soon like Festo’s Bionic Cobot, BionicMotionRobot and Octopus Gripper employ techniques initially isolated through this research.

Festo’s “eMotionButterflies” fly in a way that closely mimics actual butterflies, thanks to advanced miniaturization and materials. They can set their own flight-paths, even in changing environments. These and other Festo state-of-the-art technologies will help shape the factories of tomorrow. They will be highly useful in creating smart processes on production lines, making them self-adjusting, self-diagnosing and self-configuring to improve production efficiency and reliability and product quality.

Hallet sums up: “You aren’t likely to ever need eMotion Butterflies, but the technologies they utilize will find their way into new Festo products that will make your business more globally competitive. We know when you see the butterflies in action at CMTS, you’ll see a bit of the future of manufacturing.”
