100x faster and 10x cheaper, 3D metal printing from Massachusetts company Desktop Metal is ready to turn manufacturing into something completely different.

America’s Massachusetts-area is certainly known for its revolutionary stories, so maybe it’s not a surprise that the Massachusetts company Desktop Metal is preparing to turn manufacturing on its head, with a 3D metal printing system featuring a single pass system that spreads metal power and printing all-in-one that’s so much faster, safer and cheaper than existing systems that many people feel will revolutionize manufacturing.

Desktop Metal says it has two systems: a fast, inexpensive metal prototyping system for engineering groups; and a mass production system that the company says will make metal printing 100x faster, 10x cheaper initial costs and 20x cheaper materials costs than existing laser technologies. Add in that these new systems can use a wider range of alloys, and one can understand why Desktop feels it is at the dawn of a new manufacturing revolution.
